Postnatal massage and remedial therapy

Postnatal remedial therapy will support your recovery
from pregnancy and childbirth, whilst also helping you cope with the challenges of caring for your baby.

Main benefits

Aches & pains

Soft tissue therapy will help your body release the muscle memory of labour and relax into a resting state. We will also address any aches and pains caused by any newly developed postural habits, such as your breastfeeding positions.

Pelvic floor rehabilitation

Together we will assess your pelvic floor and look for any potential signs of “weakness” or “overactivity”. If needed, I will recommend simple exercises to achieve faster recovery, or refer you to a specialised physiotherapist.

Diastasis recti

We will work on the adhesions and fibrosis that make the fascia around your core stuck and inelastic. To encourage faster healing, our main goal will be to improve the tensional integrity of the connective tissue between the two bellies of your abdominal wall.

Breathing pattern

A functional breathing pattern is crucial when working on diastasis and pelvic floor rehab. With a combination of soft tissue techniques and functional breathing exercises, we will rebuild the synergy between all different elements of your core.

C-section scar treatment

Scars are made up of fibrous tissue which reduces the elasticity of the affected area. If untreated they create adhesions in the underlying tissues as well as referred issues in other parts of the body.

Spinal realignment

With a combination of soft tissue techniques, we will address the remnants of the pregnancy upper and lower crossed syndrome. This will allow your spine to move back to its natural alignment, which will result in better posture and more effective muscle engagement.

FAQs

+ When is it safe to start having postnatal massage?

We recommend waiting at least 2 weeks after you have given birth, but it mostly depends on how you are feeling. You'll find a whole section on the pre-screening form where I ask specific questions about your pregnancy, delivery and current health status. Based on that, I will let you know whether it's safe for you to have a session with me right away, or if it's worth speaking with your GP first.

+ My child is 5 years old now, is it too late to address unresolved postnatal issues?

It's never too late! The sooner we start, the better of course, but many postnatal issues (such as incontinence, diastasis, untreated C-section scar and so on) can still be improved, even several years after you have given birth.

+ If I book a session with you but I don't have anybody to look after my baby, is it ok if I bring him/her with me?

Absolutely, your baby will be in the rooms with us.

+ What is your cancellation policy?

A full refund will be issued for any cancellations that are clearly communicated up until 24h before the scheduled appointment. In case you need to cancel at the very last minute (less than 24h-notice), I will be holding your payment so that you can use it next time you book a treatment with mummy care.
