Pregnancy massage

Massage therapy is a wonderful experience for any mum-to-be
and it is proven to have invaluable beneficial effects.

Main benefits

Aches & pains

It relieves aches and pains caused by the musculoskeletal and hormonal changes that naturally happen during pregnancy, such as lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain and sciatica – to name a few.

Lymphatic drainage

It facilitates lymphatic drainage. This will reduce oedema and swelling (typically around wrists and ankles) that can lead to problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, and often cause a feeling of fatigue and lack of energy.

Feel-good hormones

It stimulates the release of feel-good hormones, which reduce the stress levels of both mother and baby, promote sleep, and relieve mood swings and anxiety caused by the pregnancy hormonal changes.

Blood circulation

It aids blood circulation, which results in higher amounts of oxygen and nutrients being pumped towards the cells of both mother and baby, and also in the faster elimination of metabolic waste products.

Breathing pattern

It encourages deeper and easier breathing, by relaxing the muscles in the chest. These get tight during pregnancy due to the increasing size of the uterus, which can cause shortness of breath and dysfunctional breathing habits.

Relaxation

It gives you a chance to unwind and concentrate on your body and your baby. Whether you are up for a chat, or would rather close your eyes for a bit, you’ll leave the clinic feeling pampered and energised.

FAQs

+ When is it safe to have pregnancy massage?

Pregnancy massage can be booked once you have had your 12-week pregnancy dating scan and then any time up until you give birth.

+ Can I still have a massage if there are complications during my pregnancy or if I am in the high-risk category?

In most cases pregnancy massage can still be received safely. However, there are circumstances where the green light from your GP or midwife will be required, and others where massage therapy is not recommended. I will ask you to fill out a short health questionnaire before you book your first appointment with me; if there is anything either of us would like to discuss or clarify ahead of our sessions, I will always be happy to talk to you over the phone.

+ I am finding it increasingly uncomfortable to lay on my back, would you be able to treat me in different positions?

Definitely! Massage in a side-lying position is still very effective and I have plenty of bolsters and pillows to make sure you feel supported and relaxed at all time.

+ What is your cancellation policy?

A full refund will be issued for any cancellations that are clearly communicated up until 24h before the scheduled appointment. In case you need to cancel at the very last minute (less than 24h-notice), I will save your payment as credit so you can use it next time you book a Mummy Care treatment.
